Hypnobirthing Berkshire - Teachers' Directory
I am a very calm happy individual and feedback from my clients tell me I instil positivity and confidence in class. I have a wealth of birthing experience to draw on and am proud to say I’ve had the pleasure of assisting all my 7 grandchildren into the world in every which way: a caesarean section for breech followed by vaginal birth after caesarean with mum spending most of her labour in a birth pool; a homebirth with Buster (family dog) sitting quietly in the corner observing events only to move once baby was born; a waterbirth (on the Birth Centre where I was Matron) with dad supporting in the pool; and finally ‘Alicia’ who arrived unexpectedly and in a hurry in my living room, one sunny spring afternoon. This means I can never move from my house as it holds such special memories for me! I embrace normal birth in all its forms and take great satisfaction in helping women to achieve the birth they want.
I also believe it is every woman’s right to have a calm, gentle, satisfying birth for both herself and her baby no matter what type of birth is planned. Serenity-hypnobirthing welcomes what I call ‘Special Cases’ i.e. A Planned Vaginal Birth After Caesarean Section (VBAC), Twins, Elective Caesarean Section (El CS), Birth following a Traumatic Delivery, and women who are now pregnant after putting off having a baby because of their deep-seated fear of birth.
I’m Ruth Prowse a qualified hypnobirthing practitioner through KG Hypnobirthing. I qualified as a hypnotherapist in 2009 following a Psychology BSc at The University of the West of England. I am also a hypnobirthing mum myself!
Running a busy home with two children, my partner and work as a Doula and Hypnobirthing Instructor, it can sometimes be tricky to balance life. I often find in these moments that I make myself some me time and put to use the fantastic hypnobirthing techniques that I was taught by Katharine. I very quickly remember how to slow everything down and gain perspective. Often I find my mind wondering to the women I am working with and I feel ….energised ….inspired ….in awe ….full of expectation ….and confident in our and their ability......then its game on!

Having been inspired by the calm and focused experience that my daughter had after she and her husband attended one of Katharine’s courses in 2008, I knew I had to do Katharine’s Teacher Training course myself. In 2010 I was privileged to be able to offer a revision course when grandchild No 2 was expected.
I am a retired teacher and worked in Special Educational Needs for many years, in particular, with children with Asperger’s Syndrome and dyslexia. Alongside teaching, in 1998 I trained as an Advanced Hypnotherapist and in 2000/01 achieved NLP Master Practitioner status, which means that I have a great deal of experience in helping people to feel relaxed and comfortable so that I can work with them to help them solve a wide variety of problems. Adding Hypnobirthing to my portfolio of skills seemed a natural progression. In January 2014 I became a published author. My book, "When Charlie made a wish...", written in rhyme, aims to teach children (and adults) how to overcome their fears and let their inner superhero out. This is an invaluable lesson for first time parents-to-be. The book costs £10.00 + £2.00 postage and packaging. To order, email:
My interests include: entertaining my grandchildren, writing, theatre, films, music, gardening, walking, cooking and reading.
Hypnobirthing is an effective natural childbirthing method which brings a calmness to mother and baby through the use of hypnosis techniques for relaxation.
Each of our practitioners has been trained in one or more of the recognised hypnobirthing teaching methods and has then been through our assessment process to ensure they have the appropriate experience and skill we require. This ensures that the training they provide to expectant mothers is of a very high quality.
All of our hypnobirthing practitioners also subscribe to our code of ethics which includes delivering only good quality training and promoting good practice at all times. They are also firm advocates of natural birthing techniques, keen to see it taken up more widely as the delivery method of choice by mothers.
We have teachers covering the following areas including Bracknell, Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Reading, Slough, Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford, Calcot, Windsor, Maidenhead, Ascot, Eton, Wokingham, Woodley, Earlery, Winnersh and the surrounding areas.
