Hello and congratulations on your pregnancy! As a midwife with 30 years diverse experience in pregnancy and birth I have seen many changes in maternity services. The one thing that has not changed and what women appear to have in common is the desire to feel safe and in control.
Sadly, the art of gentle birth has been somewhat lost. The medicalisation of pregnancy and birth, compounded by negative images in the media and scare stories related from one woman to another, has created tension and fear with the expectation that birth is something to be dreaded. This is a very real roadblock to a positive birth experience. It does not have to be this way!!
