Jemma Wood – KGHypnobirthing with Jem

croft cottage Hobbacott Lane, Marhamchurch, Cornwall EX23 0ES, England
Location

My name is Jem, I am a working mum to one crazy, wonderful little girl and wife to a surf junky family man. I qualified in KGH in 2017 after having an empowering and profound experience birthing my daughter in 2015 using Hypnobirthing. I am passionate about sharing the knowledge and tools with other mums to be, to offer them the same wonderful experience of birth.

I have been a practicing Social Worker, specialising in fostering and adoption, for 10 years and have worked with children for over 12 years

I offer one to one KGH training in the comfort of your own home, so you and your partner do not have to travel at a time when you are already very tired or take time out of your already busy lives. I offer flexible courses, in the evenings and weekends so neither of you need to take time off work or have to find additional child care for your other children. The course can be completed one evening a week, over 4 weeks or over 2 full days at a weekend. I work with you to find the most convenient and relaxing option for your individual circumstances.

My journey into Hypnobirthing began in 2014 when we found out we were pregnant. My friend was also pregnant but was suffering from a lot of anxiety due to the fear of birthing her child. She asked us to join her on a Hypnobirthing course, and give her moral support as she tried to convince her scientist husband that it was not just some ‘mystical mumbo jumbo’. At this point if I am honest I was also highly skeptical about Hypnobirthing too, and thought it all sounded too good to be true.

The course was so much more than we hoped it would be, providing an alternative perspective on birth that differed greatly from the extreme images on TV and in films. After the four week course we continued to listen to our relaxation scripts, and practiced getting into the relaxed ‘zone’. This gave us something special and shared to do together as a couple, in preparation for welcoming our child. It gave my husband a really important role and included him more fully in the birthing journey.

Towards the end of our pregnancy we felt confident and relaxed, and so made the decision to have a home birth. We were now excited, not frightened, and felt privileged to have the opportunity to experience birth. Our friends felt the same and they too opted for a home birth. It was quite miraculous to see my friend convert her anxiety into excitement through the process of Hypnobirthing.

Both my friend and I had beautiful, calm home births without any pain relief, and without any fear or anxiety during the on set of labour. Our husbands were both fully present and a vital part of birth.

My friends second labour was a little less straight forward and she was induced two weeks early. Despite this she made use of all her Hypnobirthing tools and had a calm, quiet, drug free birth in hospital. Needless to say her husband is now a believer!

We moved to Cornwall in February 2017, looking to get out of the rat race of London and give our little one a beach filled childhood like we had both enjoyed. I quickly met lots of wonderful women, through toddler groups, many of who were pregnant with their second child. It became apparent that there were very few providers of Hypnobirthing courses in Cornwall so I set about becoming a teacher so I could offer women the same opportunity, knowledge and hopefully the same calm birthing experience as we had.

We did a Hypnobirthing Refresher course with Jem in preparation for the birth of our second child and it was simply brilliant. Having had a somewhat complicated birth with our first daughter, my husband and I were dedicated to getting to grips with the breathing, visualisations, active positions and focused positive mindset of a hypnobirth. Jem was fantastic at getting to grips with any issues we were still carrying from our previous childbirth experience, actioning plans for all birth eventualities and demystifying all the areas of the practice I didn’t quite understand the first time. By arming us with powerful hypnobirthing preparation tools, Jem gave us everything we needed for a good birth. I’m thrilled to say I got the natural, calm birth I’d always wanted and our daughter was born without complications or any pain relief. I have no doubt this was down to our sessions with Jem and her brilliant delivery of the KGH Hypnobirthing Method and I cannot reccommend her services enough. Thank you Jem!

I would recommend hypnobirthing with Jem to everyone! I used her because I suffer with anxiety and the thought of giving birth was making me VERY nervous! But whether you are nervous or not, there’s a lot she can teach you that will help prepare you for birth, so that you are calm and in control. We didn’t have a natural birth in the end, it was a c section as he was breach, although I did go into labour about 4 hours before the op, so I used all the techniques Jem had taught me to get through those first contractions. Even though I didn’t get to use everything I was taught, I was so calm throughout my pregnancy because of hypnobirthing, it absolutely helped my state of mind towards giving birth, and just for that reason it’s worth it.

I offer courses on an individual needs lead basis. Please contact me to discuss when and where is best to hold you course.

I offer, individual sessions, group sessioins and a refresher course. These are run at the times my clients need them and led by your pregnancy. I can travel to your home or you are welcome to come to my home, whatever works best for your individual circumstances.
