My own pregnancy 16 years ago (I was aged 26) was all it took to inspire me to become a Midwife and then a Hypnobirthing teacher. Prior to this my background was in Complementary Health Practice. After qualifying in Midwifery, I was fortunate enough to work at The Birth Centre Ltd., Professor Caroline Flint's well known establishment. Here the vast majority of our clients were hypnobirthing. There were vast differences between these women’s labours and those I had looked after within the NHS. I immediately realised that the benefits of Hypnobirthing had a strong ripple effect, extending to the Midwife! Coming back from a hypnobirth, I would feel relaxed and refreshed thanks to being in such a positively peaceful atmosphere. I cannot imagine a more fulfilling career than supporting clients / couples and their babies through what is undoubtedly the most important time in their lives. I am very proud to have been trained by Katherine Graves herself and to be continually inspired by the birth experiences of my personal clients. I appreciate the intimacy of life. My passion is to gently facilitate the human experience in ways that point directly to wholeness, or true nature. Hypnobirthing does this very effectively.
Hypnobirthing is a series of therapeutic techniques designed specifically for fear release. It addresses the cognitive dissonance that commonly clusters around the childbearing experience. The practice of hypnobirthing helps couples clear negative cultural conditioning by means of positive interventions such as the demystifying of modern birth practices through the sharing of evidence-based information. Foremost, hypnobirthing introduces women to the practice of specific breathing techniques, therapeutic touch and visualisations for relaxation.
Giving birth carries the potential to be the most empowering and extraordinary experience of a woman's entire life. Hypnobirthing is an approach to birth that is grounded by the rational dissemination of evidence-based research about many birth related topics, balanced with relaxation techniques so powerful that they impact directly with the nervous and endocrine system. This is so much the case that those who have supported clients who have hypnobirthed their babies cannot believe their eyes and ears! During her contractions (''surges''), she appears supremely relaxed and deeply serene. Hypnobirthing is confidence inspiring, imaginative, creative and ultimately wholly beneficial to the experience of birth. Well documented is hypnobirthing’s potential to not only positively enhance pregnancy and birth, but also the postnatal period and beyond.
The point of Hypnobirthing is not birthing without pain. The point is to birth with LOVE and CONFIDENCE, without fear, without unnecessary intervention and with a supportive team who shares your birth vision. That is the definition of a successful hypno-birth. The wonderful side-effect of this type of gentle, mother-centered, empowered birth is more pleasure and less pain.
Hypnobirthing classes taught privately, one to one and sessions are weekly for two and a half hours in your home. This format enables practise and time to address individual needs with you being in the comfort of your own environment. Classes are usually held in the evening, but can be arranged during the day if more suitable. Alternatively, the entire programme can be taught over a weekend.
