Hypnobirthing South - Teachers' Directory
Hi! I’m Annalisa, founder of Birthappily and mum of two. Hypnobirthing has changed my life and I am on a mission to give you Your Best Birth Experience!
I’ve heard the word “hypnobirthing” for the first time during an antenatal class, when I was pregnant with my first child. I dismissed it pretty quickly, thinking that anything with the word “hypno” in it, wouldn’t be for me. I couldn’t be more wrong. The birth of my son was an escalation of intervention and drama and, despite my research and the antenatal classes that I followed religiously, I didn’t feel prepared or in control. For months, after my birth, I thought that a calm and relaxed birth was something that only happens to a few lucky ones. And I wasn’t one of them.
Fast forward a few years and I’m pregnant with my second baby. A friend introduced me to hypnobirthing and changed my life. I will always cherish the memory of my husband and I, giggling knowing that we were about to meet our baby girl and the relaxed environment around us.
Which birth would you rather have?
My name is Shirley and I live in Fernhurst in the border of the three counties West Sussex, Surrey & Hampshire. We have three daughters. Two of these were hypnobirths. My third birth was at home and the most amazing experience I have ever had. I realised the importance of understanding the birth process and how to work with your body will enable you to have a positive birth experience.
Birth and children are my world! I also run world music and movement classes for babies and toddlers called Yo Baby.
I run a local Positive Birth Movement Group, a local Home Birth Support group where we lend pools for a donation, I am a Reiki Master and currently training in Indian Head Massage and as a ABM Breastfeeing Counsellor.
I am so passionate about spreading the Hypnobirth word, giving birth is a life changing experience. By practicing Hypnobirthing you are also learning new skills for life that you continue to use after your baby is born.
Here is my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/HypnoBabyoDoula/
I live in Peckham with my husband James, son Joseph (5 years old) and daughter Iris (2 years old).
I am committed to doing everything I can to help you experience the empowerment of a gentle and natural birth with Hypnobirthing.
Hypnobirthing is logical, simple, practical… a very effective and complete antenatal education. I will teach you invaluable hypnobirthing techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment; very informative with lots of laughter too!
I am also an advanced Neurolinguistic Programming therapist (NLP). This is essentially a form of life coaching which uses tools to unlock unhelpful behaviours, thought patterns or habits, replacing them with more positive and helpful ones!
NLP gives me the expertise to provide not only the core Hypnobirthing techniques but also to offer tailor made tools and exercises to help parents–to–be get the most from my course. For example, if a mum-to-be says she simply don't know if she's physically or mentally able to have the birth she wants I have exercises to help her believe in herself.
I offer ongoing support after the course has finished and am on hand to help you and your partner get the most from your practice.
I am a mother of 2 grown up and amazing sons. I am also a midwife, a KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner and a Positive Birth Movement Facilitator. My family are kind enough to allow me plenty of time and space to indulge my passion for all women and their families to have THEIR best birth possible. I live in Central London but have an undying love for Brighton, East Sussex so happily share my knowledge and passion there too. I love my vocation and love to share.
My name is Edwina and as well as being mum to two gorgeous girls, I’m a KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner; ‘Birthing from Within’ Birth Preparation Mentor; Life Coach and experienced Registered Shiatsu Practitioner, specialising in pregnancy. In a previous life, many moons ago, I was a Chartered Accountant!
As the founder of ‘Birthways’, I’m passionate about helping couples have a positive, empowering birth experience however events may unfold.
My range of qualifications and professional experience allow me to offer you support on many levels (emotionally, mentally and physically) throughout your pregnancy. I will give you the tools to achieve the best birth for you and increase your potential of a calmer, gentler birth.
You’ll learn ways to relax; release any fears and anxieties; build trust and confidence in your body’s ability to birth and feel fully prepared and aware of all your options.
My passion for birth started during a postgraduate course in ‘Shiatsu for Maternity and the Postnatal Period’. This simmering passion ignited after my two amazing home births. Despite some unexpected events along the way, including a hospital visit, throughout my labour I truly felt a deep level of calm and at one with the powerful flow of nature and birth. There’s nothing quite like that magic moment when you realise ‘I did it…We did it!!!’ The recognition that you stepped into the unknown; laboured; did what you instinctively needed to do to get through each moment and were now on the other side with your baby! I strongly feel that my birth preparation significantly contributed to what I can only describe as a life-affirming event.
When I’m not supporting pregnant couples, you may find me at yoga, cycling, playing tennis and being a ‘mummy taxi’ to my 13 and 10 year old daughters... amongst other things!
It’s such a privilege and joy to mentor mothers and their birth partners as they journey towards the birth of their baby and themselves as parents. I love my role as a KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner and Birth Preparation Mentor and look forward to meeting and working with many more families for years to come.
Vicky has been a midwife since 2013 but her interest in Hypnobirthing was sparked as a student working in a home from home birth centre. Amazed at how couples were coming through with such calm and trust in what they were doing, she was eager to find out what had created this confidence. It was Hypnobirthing.
A couple of years after qualifying as a midwife Vicky became a qualified KG Hypnobirthing teacher and has since trained as an independent practitioner so that she could combine her knowledge and expertise with her training as a life and wellbeing coach.
From the outset Vicky was reassured at how simple and logical hypnobirthing was and how in keeping it was with the values she holds as a midwife. Honouring women’s body and experiences. Trusting that a women’s body knows what it needs to do, her head just needs to get out of the way. Empowering the special people around them to also understand and trust women’s bodies and capabilities, so that they know how they can best support them.
Modern culture has conditioned people to believe that birth is painful, scary, dramatic and that participants have no control over it. Through her years of supporting women through this rite of passage and her own two births she has come to believe the opposite.
Vicky believes we have more control than we think because we can observe our feelings thoughts and actions. She believes that a women’s body will only give her what she can handle.
“I felt this deeply in my births with Pia and Wren. They were fairly textbook but by no means a walk in the park. I still needed to dig deep into my soul to connect with my own power to overcome my fears and talk myself down when everything felt too much.”
Vicky is passionate about promoting a comfortable birth where families feel respected, supported, and held and has made it her purpose to support families to embrace this time and reduce the number of people that have traumatic birth experiences. Vicky feels these goals are important and relatable to all birth experiences - waterbirth to emergency Cesarean.
There is no “right” way to birth your baby. Vicky hopes to support you through an experience you have full control over, can be aware of what you needed and how you are able to share these needs with your care providers. An experience where your birth partner feels like they are an essential member of the team, not just watching from the side-lines.
Considering this Vicky has designed this program to specifically target these topics and work them into a practical guide that can support you both to embrace the journey with love and trust.
I currently work as a midwife at Kingston Hospital having three years midwifery training at St Thomas' Hospital, where I gained invaluable experience and knowledge caring for a huge array of women and families.
Prior to studying midwifery, I completed a Masters in Child Psychology and a BSc in Educational Studies with Early Childhood Studies. I am proud of my knowledge I have gained over the years and I have always admired the power of the human mind.
I have cared for hypnobirthing mums who have experienced analgesic free births and those who have needed emergency caesareans. Each birth is unique, powerful and emotional. I have seen hypnobirthing work and I believe removing fear and negativity can make the experience of pregnancy, labour and birth a magical one.
