Hypnobirthing South - Teachers' Directory
I came to Hypnobirthing like many Hypnobirthing teachers, through being pregnant, using it to birth and absolutely LOVING IT!
Hypnobirthing was first mentioned to me during my first pregnancy, where I had read everything about birth (I was totally prepared for any ante-natal quiz) and took a weekly pregnancy yoga class, all in preparation for the unknown event of birth which I was secretly terrified of. My best friend who was also expecting her first child was telling me about Hypnobirthing and I thought it sounded very much like what I was doing already, getting clued up on ante-natal knowledge and relaxing, so I decided not to pursue it further.
During my labour I knew there was a better way for me, my body and baby to birth but I didn't have the tools.
When I came to my second pregnancy, I knew I was willing to invest in myself and my birth experience as they were invaluable to my wellbeing and that of my family.
I decided to look into Hypnobirthing for myself, my baby and also my husband who wanted to be a part of the experience.
I loved the whole experience throughout pregnancy and during labour, the connection I had to my body and the process was empowering.
The sense of teamwork it gave my husband, me and our son along the journey was so important in preparing us all for the transitions and transformations that were happening. We all enjoyed the birth experience and started family life calmly, positively and empowered.
Having had that experience I knew that better birth experiences were out there and every mother and family deserved to have them. I also knew Hypnobirthing was a great tool in enabling them.
As a teacher I work positively and realistically; supporting you in discovering the birth choices that are uniquely right for you and enabling your unique positive birth. As a Birth Trauma Resolution Practitioner I am also skilled in supporting those planning a healing birth or looking to overcome previous trauma as they prepare.
I am always honoured and privileged to work with people at this stage in their lives and each birth deepends my respect and fascination of birth and how to support it for families.
My name is Edwina and as well as being mum to two gorgeous girls, I’m a KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner; ‘Birthing from Within’ Birth Preparation Mentor; Life Coach and experienced Registered Shiatsu Practitioner, specialising in pregnancy. In a previous life, many moons ago, I was a Chartered Accountant!
As the founder of ‘Birthways’, I’m passionate about helping couples have a positive, empowering birth experience however events may unfold.
My range of qualifications and professional experience allow me to offer you support on many levels (emotionally, mentally and physically) throughout your pregnancy. I will give you the tools to achieve the best birth for you and increase your potential of a calmer, gentler birth.
You’ll learn ways to relax; release any fears and anxieties; build trust and confidence in your body’s ability to birth and feel fully prepared and aware of all your options.
My passion for birth started during a postgraduate course in ‘Shiatsu for Maternity and the Postnatal Period’. This simmering passion ignited after my two amazing home births. Despite some unexpected events along the way, including a hospital visit, throughout my labour I truly felt a deep level of calm and at one with the powerful flow of nature and birth. There’s nothing quite like that magic moment when you realise ‘I did it…We did it!!!’ The recognition that you stepped into the unknown; laboured; did what you instinctively needed to do to get through each moment and were now on the other side with your baby! I strongly feel that my birth preparation significantly contributed to what I can only describe as a life-affirming event.
When I’m not supporting pregnant couples, you may find me at yoga, cycling, playing tennis and being a ‘mummy taxi’ to my 13 and 10 year old daughters... amongst other things!
It’s such a privilege and joy to mentor mothers and their birth partners as they journey towards the birth of their baby and themselves as parents. I love my role as a KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner and Birth Preparation Mentor and look forward to meeting and working with many more families for years to come.
Providing support and care for women and families during pregnancy and childbirth isn't a job for me, its very much a part of who I am. I had a previous lengthy career working in a bank in Sheffield but gave it up to move to London to pursue my dreams of becoming a midwife.
I have never felt such a sense of pride or motivation for what I do until I found my calling and strive to ensure a woman always feels empowered, informed and in control of her birth. This is what led me to my interest in antenatal education and in particular, KG Hypnobirthing.
I am passionate about what this course provides, having seen first hand I can say undoubtedly that KG Hypnobirthing is a powerful tool that helps expectant parents feel confident, relaxed and informed about the exciting journey into parenthood.
I became a KG Hypnobirthing teacher following two amazing and, dare I say it, enjoyable births. Before my first pregnancy I was incredibly sceptical about Hypnobirthing, so I was blown away when simply listening to some CD’s helped the birthing process and me. For my second pregnancy I decided to book a complete course, to see what a difference it could make. As a result, we birthed comfortably and quickly at home.
Through years of working with families as a practicing midwife, I have seen first hand how information and birth preparation can enable a family to experience birth in a positive light. I have advocated positive imagery around birth and encouraged women to feel in control and prepared for labour and birth in my work as a midwife. Completing my hypnobirthing training felt like a natural progression to enhancing my relationship with the families I care for. I feel Hypnobirthing has become an extension of my midwifery skills.
I am passionate about empowering people to achieve a birth that they can be happy with, regardless of the path that it takes. Hypnobirthing has given me the tools to be able to ensure that I can do this effectively for all the families I meet. This knowledge and skills combined with my compassionate, caring reassuring nature has put me in good stead to support families through this life changing journey of becoming a new family!
My name is Lesley and I live in Haslemere, Surrey with my husband Jeremy and some of my 5 children. The children range in age from 27 down to 17 (4 boys and 1 girl). The whole period of my childrens' childhoods has flown past and I would not have missed any of it. ( Very fortunately I have not had to). Their births were varied and apart from a caesarean section for my first son who was breech, then a forceps delivery for my second child as he was slightly stuck, the other 3 children were born very easily and with no other birthing difficulties. Having watched them grow up (they are all adults now) they are now an absolute delight to me and I enjoy their company as fellow adults as much as I do any of my best friends.
Long before I had my own children I wanted to work in the neonatal world but it wasn't until 2008, when my children were old enough, that I had time to do an Access to Nursing & Health Professions course at Guildford College, and my aim back then was to become a midwife. I heard about Doulas for the first time just after I finished my course in 2010. After some research I understood that their ethos sat very comfortably with my own belief that childbirth is a natural process which, given the right tools and emotional suport, most women will come through with beautiful memories of a very primitive and wonderful experience to treasure all their lives. As a recently qualified KG Hypnobirthing teacher I now have the perfect tools to teach pregnant couples how to have the best (and sometimes pain-free) birth possible for them. The sense of achievement for a woman is extraordinary and this should be available to all women; so it is with this belief that I feel that to be able in this part of a couple's journey into parenthood is an amazing privilege. I can offer you support in the form of practical help, emotional support (you may need both in varying amounts) and hypnobirthing techniques that can be also be used as coping skills in other potentially stressful situations throughout life. I also offer non-judgemental advice during the build-up to the birth and in the immediate post-natal period, as you adjust to your beautiful new addition.
I bring a unique set of skills to being a hypnobirthing teacher. I have been a Psychology teacher for 14 years. I am used to explaining complex information in a way that makes it clear and easy to understand, whether we are working individually or in groups. Many people have not been in a ‘classroom’ for many years and you may have apprehension about this which can get in the way of your learning. I am highly skilled at making you feel comfortable in learning situations, so that quickly you are able to take on board the information and skills you are looking for.
Added to this I am a qualified Hypnotherapist. I have a good appreciation and understanding of the relationship between the mind and body. I use a wide range of therapeutic skills including the power of language to help you bring about the change you are looking for. As a hypnobirthing teacher I can also help you overcome related fears and worries that may arise when we start talking about giving birth.
I am also a psychologist, and I carry out research into pregnancy and anxiety at Goldsmiths University as part of my PhD.
Hi, I’m Laura, The Holistic Doula
I am here to support you in your personal and unique journey to motherhood. I love working with both pregnant mothers as well as with mothers and babies once their baby/ies arrives.
My aim is to offer compassionate and heart centred continuity of care to you during your pregnancy, labour and during the early stages after your new babies arrival.
I believe that the happiness and health of mothers has a huge impact on babies and in turn society. This fuels my passion for supporting women in creating awareness, empowerment, respect and positivity around birth as well as creating value around the role of the mother.
I have a holistic outlook but I am also realistic. I have no preconceptions about what birth should look or feel like, and no bias towards the method. My aim is simply to support you and give you the tools to optimise your process whatever that ends up being.
Prior to the birth of your baby I will help you to identify your options and feel well informed and confident in your choices in preparation for labour. I can be someone that you can trust to air your concerns with and listen without judgement as you healthily explore any fears or concerns.
I teach Pregnancy and Mum & Baby Yoga as incredible tools to equip mothers emotionally, physically and mentally for pregnancy, labour and after child birth for bonding and wellbeing. This form of birth preparation cultivates connection, awareness and trust in the bodies natural intelligence. I teach movements and breath work techniques which can be effectively used in labour and practices such as relaxation, positive visualisation and mindfulness to help a mother to stay present. I bring a lot of the influence of this work into being a doula.
Additionally I organise beautiful Blessingway’s (the alternative to a baby shower) to honour a woman’s transition into motherhood. Postnatally I have trained in Closing the Bones and love to offer this beautiful ritual as part of the closing cycle post the birth of my clients babies should they so wish.
The Birth of your Baby
As your doula my aim is to enhance the labour environment by holding a space where you feel nurtured, safe and empowered to tune in.
Once in the flow of labour l will help you to get in the zone so that you can focus – offering encouragement and reminding you just what a powerful goddess you are. I will serve as a calm and grounded anchor for you throughout the varying stages of labour.
Whilst I am entirely there for you – I am not a replacement for your chosen birth partner – my support extends to them, to be their ally, and to help facilitate an empathetic, intimate and loving connection. My training in Holistic Massage means I also have some nifty massage techniques I can give you or offer your birth partner guidance on. I can offer various rebozo techniques to help support you during your labour process as well as some labour related aromatherapy.
I can come to your hospital to offer support with breastfeeding post the birth of your baby should a longer stay be required (depending on individual hospital rules).
Supporting your Transformation into Motherhood
I offer practical and emotional support during the first few weeks to ease you into parenting your own way. I can offer lots of practical assistance as well as a listening ear and a reassuring hug to help you navigate options available to you.
My role is to nurture you in this precious time, enabling as much rest and recuperation as possible so that you can give your baby the best of yourself. Perhaps allowing you time for a relaxing bath, some sleep or just simply some space.
Reintegrating you into home life could mean helping you in looking after your baby and or other little ones, assisting with feeds and nappy changes, assisting with breastfeeding, helping you to navigate new equipment, setting up your nursery, discussing various parenting methods, helping around the house, grocery shopping, cooking, making tea (cake and biscuits a necessity), running errands or even taking care of small furries.
My belief is that women are deeply intuitive about what they and their babies need. I want to help to fill you with confidence and positivity to trust your own instinctual wisdom – leaving you feeling strong and capable as you get to know your little one on the outside.
I strongly believe that birth completion is a really important part of the post natal care that a woman should receive. Should you wish to, we can take time for you to reflect on your labour so that you can move on from it positively. I offer the Closing the Bones ceremony as a beautiful tool to complete the circle.
In addition I can provide Postnatal Yoga and Holistic Massage therapy as well as many holistic post natal nurturing remedies.
It would be an honour to support you during this life changing time.
If you would like to arrange a meet up or call to get to know more about my offering please do get in touch by phone or email
I look forward to hearing from you should you feel that you would like to work with me.
