Hypnobirthing South - Teachers' Directory
I am Ellie, a SW London-based mother and a practising caseload midwife. I am passionate about couples becoming informed about physiological labour and the options available, leading to a relaxed pregnancy and positive birth experience, regardless of the unexpected turns this journey can take.
I’m Tahnee Knowles DipHb(KGH) the founder Bump & Mind Hynpnobirthing and Bump & Mind Retreats. I am based on the Isle of Wight where I live with my husband, son and 2 fur babies. I teach all over the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, London and surrounding areas.
Very early on in my pregnancy I stumbled across hypnobirthing. After researching the benefits I realised the importance of a mindful pregnancy and positive outlook on birth itself. During my maternity leave I found myself itching to offer the same experience to other expectant parents.
I used hypnobirthing techniques throughout my own pregnancy and labour and was in awe of how confident and excited I was about something that used to cause me such anxiety and fear.
I have since trained as a hypnobirthing teacher and use the renowned KGH training programme with my clients. KGH is a Royal College of Midwives accredited and the original UK Hypnobirthing course.
I teach from a non judgemental fact based point of view and my aim is to equip you all the tools needed for a calming , comfortable birth experience.
Katharine Graves, founder of KGHypnobirthing, teaches once a month in London at St Thomas' Hospital.
I am a hypnobirthing mum on a mission to help parents achieve the most positive, calm and empowering birth for their baby.
I first learnt about KGHypnobirthing when I was pregnant with my first baby and subsequently went on to have a wonderfully calm, quick and empowering birth.
I was amazed at how powerful and effective hypnobirthing had been for me and went on to tell as many people as possible about it. It was then I realised how passionately I felt about helping others have positive birth experience too and just 12 weeks after my daughter was born I decided to become a fully qualified KGHypnobirthing teacher.
Hello, I’m Kathryn Athill, hypnobirthing practitioner, early years teacher and mother to two young boys. I am based in South East London.
I first discovered hypnobirthing when I became pregnant with my second son and soon became obsessed! It all just made sense. I feel so impassioned about hypnobirthing and the benefits it has to a woman both pre and postnatally so much so that I trained as a hypnobirthing teacher with KGHypnobirthing.
I am a midwife with 13 years experience and a mum of two home hypno water babies. I'm madly passionate about empowering women to have a positive birth experience. Throughout my career I have witnessed the benefits of hypnobirthing time and time again. There was no doubt that when it came to having my own I was definitely going to be using it.
Having a baby is one of the defining moments of a couple's life and arguably THE defining moment of their parenthood, after all the birth of a new baby brings with it the birth of a new mother and father.
Throughout my degree and masters I have focused on supporting the natural physiology of pregnancy, birth and breastfeding not working against it. I view pregnancy and birth as a normal (if remarkable) event in a woman's life. There is a multitude of evidence to support that this approach not only results in better outcomes for mothers and babies, but also that mum's are more satisfied with their maternity experience. However, in the risk adverse, overly medicalised culture our maternity services operate under today this requires an active not a passive approach both on the part of the maternity staff and also the parents.
In my experience the (not so) secret formula for having a positive birth is confidence (self belief), taking ownership of your birth (knowledge to make informed decisions) and a strategy for keeping calm and comfortable (hypnobirthing). I teach all of this in my classes and also include essential information on early days with your new baby.
I attended a Hypnobirthing course in the lead up to the birth of my little girl two years ago and experienced the most wonderful calm and quick birth - something I didn't think was possible!
Since then I have been singing the praises of Hypnobirthing to everyone I know so I decided to take action and study to be a KGH teacher so I can empower and educate other mothers to have positive birth experiences.
With a previous career in PR I aim to spread the word as much as possible - everyone deserves to hear about Hypnobirthing, to be fully informed of their choices and to have an empowering birth experience. I personally don't know how any one gives birth without it!
When I fell pregnant in 2017 with my firstborn son, I was determined to try and make the most of those precious 40 weeks and to rejoice in the amazing miracle my body was creating. At about 13 weeks pregnant I came across The Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill (included as part of all Magnificent Mama courses) and it genuinely changed my life. I read it cover to cover and from this point on, had a completely different outlook on my pregnancy and birth. My thoughts on my birth plan completely changed, I became very curious about Hypnobirthing and the prospect of an enjoyable birth, and I was determined to learn more. I undertook a Hypnobirthing class and it confirmed that this was the route I wanted to take. For the first time, I felt excited about giving birth. I felt in awe of what my body could do, I felt confident! My first choice was no longer a birth that was 'calm' because I was full of drugs. I now wanted a connected and positive birth, managed only by the power of my mind and body. My birth, my choices.
I became as informed as I could, I practised my Hypnobirthing techniques as often as possible and when my labour started I was so happy and excited! I went on to have a wonderful, calm birth experience and I'm sure that Hypnobirthing played a huge part in this. I’m eternally grateful that I had the opportunity to learn these invaluable techniques and I’m now choosing to spend my life on a mission to help other pregnant women achieve the best birth for them.
I am a mother to two little girls, Jorja and Jazmine. I have always wanted to be a mum, so to find out I was pregnant after our honeymoon was a blessing. At 5 months pregnant, a mum I met shared her birth story with me which left me in dread at the thought of giving birth. Luckily for me, another mum I met told me about hypnobirthing and was adamant that I try it. I thought what have I to lose, and I started to do some research into what was hypnobirthing. I read a lot about it and I loved it so much it became my bible throughout my pregnancy. My husband and I attended a hypnobirthing course as I felt it was important that he was also prepared for the big day. Like any man, he was doubtful and did it only because it was important to me.
The testimonials I read, I truly believed they were made up and there was no way a birth like those were possible. It was only after the birth of Jorja that I suddenly realised that all these stories were actually true and a birth experience that made you feel like super woman was actually possible. I had a water birth with Jorja, not because it was part of my birth plan but because the midwife I met just before her shift finished suggested that I try it. It was the most amazing experience and I will treasure it forever.
Being pregnant for the second time, I worried about how it would go and wondered if everything would work out as well as the first. I gave birth to Jazmine on my birthday and in the same pool as Jorja was born in. To have another water birth with no drugs or intervention is a testament to the power of the body, mind and hypnobirthing.
Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher but ended up working in finance. After two positive birth experiences, I've decided I want to help other women prepare themselves for one of the best experiences of their lives, take away any fear or doubt that they may have and give them the tools to enjoy the wonderful gift that is giving birth.
I am a certified Katharine Graves hypnobirthing practitioner, a qualification which is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. I am a professional member of the Hypnobirthing Association. My aim is to work with each couple to help them achieve whatever birth plan that is right for them. This includes the use of pain relief and where and how you choose to give birth.
