Hypnobirthing Berkshire - Teachers' Directory
Did you know there’s a name for someone who is totally and utterly petrified of giving birth? It’s called ‘tokophobia’. Well that was me, a tokophobic, for as long as I can remember…until a friend posted me her copy of Katharine Graves The Hypnobirthing Book, and I got myself booked onto a hypnobirthing course. After that I became such a huge advocate, I decided to become a Hypnobirthing Instructor myself!
My life before motherhood was vibrant and varied, I’ve always had a thirst for adventure. Some of the ‘crazier’ things I’ve done include sky-diving, shark-cage-diving (to be fair, that definitely wasn’t my idea), and trekking through Nepalese mountains. I’ve travelled quite a lot, which has been an amazing way to interact with people from all over the world, and see incredible sights.
However, without any doubt, my biggest blessing (and challenge) has been becoming a mother to my little girl. Life is still crazy, but these days my ‘wild risks’ tend to be along the lines of allowing my little girl to paint over our white rug without wearing an apron. But only with water soluble paints. And paper towels at the ready.

Hello and congratulations on your pregnancy.
The experience coupled with the tools I learnt in hypnobirthing have quite literally changed my life -as cheesy as it sounds, both my husband and I live a much more stress free, fulfilled life and we are calm, confident parents.
On my work as a doula, having accompanied women and couples in very varied settings and reflecting back on some of these experiences, I learnt how hypnobirthing can make a difference and decided to train as a hypnobirthing teacher.
Currently I co-facilitate the Reading Positive Birth group as I am a firm believer on the importance of bringing positivity around childbirth.
Please get in touch if you are interested in hypnobirthing and antenatal preparation :)
I am a qualified midwife who teaches hypnobirthing in Berkshire and the surrounding areas. I have had the pleasure of working on a stand-alone midwifery led unit over the last few years and have supported numerous families during their pregnancies, births and postnatal period.
After caring for several women in labour who used hypnobirthing techniques, I was amazed at the way they birthed and the confident, calm environment that surrounded them. I therefore decided to use hypnobirthing techniques when giving birth to my son Max which led to a wonderful birth. This inspired me to share this knowledge with other expectant mothers by teaching KG hypnobirthing.
I'd love to hear from you, so please don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email. Additionally, you can follow the link to my website where you will find additional information on the courses I offer.
I completed a BSc(Hons) in Applied Ecology and Conservation, followed by an MSc in Species Identification and Survey Skills. I worked as an Environmental Specialist for a few years, then I fell pregnant.
Constantly thinking what if something happens. Always reminded of the things that could go wrong, all aimed at preventing them from happening, but in my head I was thinking what if. Absolutely terrified of what could happen if I got anything wrong. If I wasn’t good enough.
Hypnobirthing gave me the strength I needed to get through my pregnancy and have a birth experience I am proud of. Because of that, I now teach Hypnobirthing to women who are experiencing the same thing 💖
I am a former senior management consulting professional turned Birth Doula, KGHypnobirthing teacher after the birth of my two beautiful daughters. I used KGH techniques very successfully with both my births, both planned homebirths, one hospital transfer. Regardless of whether you are a first time mom, an experienced mom, VBAC or elective C-section mom, I believe using KGHypnobirthing techniques will help you stay calm, confident and in-control of your birth experience. I am a geeky doula - and I found hypnobirthing very logical and evidence based, and I am passionate about helping other pregnant moms have a positive birth experience just like I did.
I am a very calm happy individual and feedback from my clients tell me I instil positivity and confidence in class. I have a wealth of birthing experience to draw on and am proud to say I’ve had the pleasure of assisting all my 7 grandchildren into the world in every which way: a caesarean section for breech followed by vaginal birth after caesarean with mum spending most of her labour in a birth pool; a homebirth with Buster (family dog) sitting quietly in the corner observing events only to move once baby was born; a waterbirth (on the Birth Centre where I was Matron) with dad supporting in the pool; and finally ‘Alicia’ who arrived unexpectedly and in a hurry in my living room, one sunny spring afternoon. This means I can never move from my house as it holds such special memories for me! I embrace normal birth in all its forms and take great satisfaction in helping women to achieve the birth they want.
I also believe it is every woman’s right to have a calm, gentle, satisfying birth for both herself and her baby no matter what type of birth is planned. Serenity-hypnobirthing welcomes what I call ‘Special Cases’ i.e. A Planned Vaginal Birth After Caesarean Section (VBAC), Twins, Elective Caesarean Section (El CS), Birth following a Traumatic Delivery, and women who are now pregnant after putting off having a baby because of their deep-seated fear of birth.
I’m Ruth Prowse a qualified hypnobirthing practitioner through KG Hypnobirthing. I qualified as a hypnotherapist in 2009 following a Psychology BSc at The University of the West of England. I am also a hypnobirthing mum myself!
Running a busy home with two children, my partner and work as a Doula and Hypnobirthing Instructor, it can sometimes be tricky to balance life. I often find in these moments that I make myself some me time and put to use the fantastic hypnobirthing techniques that I was taught by Katharine. I very quickly remember how to slow everything down and gain perspective. Often I find my mind wandering to the women I am working with and I feel ….energised ….inspired ….in awe ….full of expectation ….and confident in our and their ability......then its game on!

Hypnobirthing is an effective natural childbirthing method which brings a calmness to mother and baby through the use of hypnosis techniques for relaxation.
Each of our practitioners has been trained in one or more of the recognised hypnobirthing teaching methods and has then been through our assessment process to ensure they have the appropriate experience and skill we require. This ensures that the training they provide to expectant mothers is of a very high quality.
All of our hypnobirthing practitioners also subscribe to our code of ethics which includes delivering only good quality training and promoting good practice at all times. They are also firm advocates of natural birthing techniques, keen to see it taken up more widely as the delivery method of choice by mothers.
We have teachers covering the following areas including Bracknell, Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Reading, Slough, Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford, Calcot, Windsor, Maidenhead, Ascot, Eton, Wokingham, Woodley, Earlery, Winnersh and the surrounding areas.
