I’m a qualified midwife practising in the NHS, mum to three young kids and one spaniel (who is the hardest work by far). I have a passion for the amazing process of creating and brining into the world a new life and am always in awe of women’s ability to do so. I want to help share the amazing benefits of KGHypnobirthing and show women what a wonderful experience birthing their baby can be.
I truly believe that mums are important and deserve the best start to motherhood; it's a tough job! When mums feel at their best, so do their families and they can do anything they put their minds to. I'm a bit of a geek, I love science, facts and statistics. The important thing for me is that KGHypnobirthing is completely evidence based, research is showing us that nature knows what it's doing, even when we do need a little help. Our health professionals are steadily realising this too, many UK midwives are already trained in KGHypnobirthing. My courses are based on evidence and research to build confidence and trust in your birthing body and improve the bonds with your baby and birth partner. Additionally I volunteer as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter and am Level 2 qualified. I received good support from the Breastfeeding Together service in Wigan and want to give something back to other local mums. Almost all of my working life has been spent working in education with children of all ages and several years in healthcare. I'm a mum of two (2nd hypno-baby pictured left) and I love animals and the outdoors, particularly adrenaline sports such as skiing and mountain biking. Oh and I quite like eating lots of chocolate!
After 37 years as a practising midwife, I remain as passionate as ever about promoting birth as a natural and very special event. I have recently retired so have been able to channel my skills and experience in helping ‘soon to be mothers’ like you best prepare for birth. Experience has taught me a mother’s body is perfectly designed for birth, yet mothers have a tendency to work against it. I believe KGHypnobirthing is the perfect way for me to empower you with knowledge and skills to help you achieve the best birth for you.
I am professional in my approach, trustworthy, warm and friendly (so I’m told!). I will support you from first contact on enquiry, throughout pregnancy and for the first month after birth. I will provide you with a chance for birth reflection within my support period, both as a positive means of birth recovery and as a celebration. We will also have fun along the way
I hold both a teaching and counselling qualification and have extensive experience in teaching Antenatal Education, Active Birth and Relaxation, along with providing De-brief, Birth Reflection and Breastfeeding Support.
Please don't hesitate to ring me should you have any questions at all, or wish to discuss a tailor made session.
My first Hypnobirthing baby was born In 2011 and I was so amazed by the techniques I learnt, I knew I had to share this with other women.
In 2013, I bought a 5m bell tent and used it as a PosItive Birth Space attending festivals such as The Green Gathering and Solfest sharing the techniques and signposting pregnant women to great sources of information.
I trained as a KGHypnobirthing teacher and doula in 2015 and left my career in the NHS in Neuropsychology to help women have better birth experience full time in 2016.
Being a doula, I have a good understanding of how the maternity system works and how best to help you navigate it. I have one foot in the system but not both feet so this enables me to give you truly independent information.
I have since appeared on BBC1, BBC Family and Education and BBC 5Live talking about how what I do can help women who have previously had traumatic birth experiences to experience better ones.
I have spoken at birth conferences both nationally and internationally about enabling positive birth experiences.
Learning to put yourself into deep relaxation using self hypnosis is the fastest and easiest way to help you stay in control during your baby's birth.
If you invest in my course, we'll be practicing some deep relaxation so you'll be able to access your innate birthing wisdom.
You'll gain an understanding of the evidence base as well as our current maternity system and how to work with it in a way that's right for you.
Should you be interested in working with me, please do get in touch. In the first instance, we can chat to see if we are a good fit for working with each other and we can go from there.
