How Do I Train to be a Hypnobirthing Teacher?

There are several different courses available to learn how to be a hypnobirthing instructor, teacher or practitioner.

How to choose a hypnobirthing teacher training course

Choosing a hypnobirthing course which is right for you depends on what you want and how you wish to use the qualification– do you want it to supplement your midwifery or hypnotherapy practice or run your own hypnobirthing business?  Look at the differences in hypnobirthing teacher training courses to compare them:

How is the course delivered?

Are the modules online? How many hours of face-to-face training is provided?

Online Modules

The KGHypnobirthing course has two online modules:

  • Birthing Foundation
  • Hypnotherapy for Hypnobirthing

The purpose of these modules is to give a basic level of knowledge so everyone starts the main part of the course on a level playing field.  Each online module will take you about 2 evenings to complete.

KGH Teacher Training

You can attend the course live on zoom at different times of day so you will find a time that is convenient for you.  It is a 20 hour course delivered over 5 days.  This makes it easy for you to train as a KGH teacher wherever you live in the UK.  Many people attend from all over the world too.  The opportunity for you worldwide is enormous.

You can attend the same course in London if you prefer an in person course.  It is offered twice a year, and is taught over 3 days.  You are very welcome wherever you live and whatever your background and experience.

The information you get is priceless, and you will love it!

Vicki Youdan

Vicki YoudanA heartfelt thank you to Katharine… I feel like the KGHypnobirthing training has taken everything I was practising as a psychologist, added some empowering, fascinating birth knowledge and wrapped it up into the neatest, scientifically grounded, most affirming, fulfilling parcel this research-loving mum-service-provider could ask for. It’s given me a whole new career that fits with my skills, my values and my family life – and THAT is truly priceless

Where is the course held?

Are the courses local to you? Can you combine it with staying with friends / family?

KGHypnobirthing teacher training courses are held in Bristol, York, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham a few times per year and in London around ten times per year.  (NOTE:  We have moved our UK courses to Zoom apart from our London courses, post Covid.  However we are very happy to do face-to-face courses, please contact us is you would like us to run a course in your area)  People fly in from all over the world to attend our courses – recently people have arrived from countries including Brazil, the Czech Republic, Greece, Switzerland, India, Australia, the Philippines, Germany, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Qatar, Norway, Portugal and Singapore.

We also hold courses in a variety of places around the world.  If you have sufficient demand in your country, we will come and train you there.

Is the KGH course for me?

Not all hypnobirthing courses are equal.  The KGH course is well established and respected throughout the NHS. Check the length of training and the back-up for you after the course.  At KGH we support you in this new venture.

How is the course assessed?

You will be asked to complete an assessment after the course and within 6 months.

The purpose of the assessment is for you to go through the material so you feel confident you have got the information at your finger tips when you start to teach, and we can see that you have.  It is marked by an experienced KGH teacher.

It is not a dissertation!  You don’t need to prove you can write long essays to be a very effective KGH teacher.  Bullet points are not sufficient for your answers, but a paragraph covering each point in the question is what is needed.  You will be teaching under the banner of KGH so it is important to maintain the high respect in which KGHypnobirthing is held – for you, for the mums you teach, and for us.

The KG Hypnobirthing Diploma

When you pass the assessment for KGH, you will receive the respected KGHypnobirthing Diploma and can use the following letters after your name: DipHb(KGH).

If you are a midwife, this diploma can be a great benefit when you apply for a new job.

What does the course cover?

It’s tempting to say – EVERYTHING!  But here is a brief outline of some of the things that are included in the KG Hypnobirthing teacher training course.

You will find the quality of the evidence based material is all you should expect from KG Hypnobirthing and more.  The high quality course materials are set out for you to use when you are teaching your own courses to parents. Message us if you have any questions, or call us if you would like to talk it through.
