Elizabeth – The Empowering Midwife

Nice to meet you! My name is Elizabeth, and I’m so glad you’ve found me.

I have worked (and still do) for the last 9 years, as an NHS midwife on “the shop floor” so to speak. I work regularly on the labour, antenatal and postnatal wards, as well as teaching parent education classes. I have also worked in the community and attended many home births, still going on call for the home birth team when I get the time.

I am passionate about informed consent, advocating for women’s choices, and helping them along the way to find their voice so they can be their own, and their new baby’s advocate too. Childbirth is such a transformative time and I believe that setting women up well to trust themselves for this massive life event, helps to shape the rest of their life.

I’ve started The Empowering Midwife because I want to be able to help more women with hypnobirth than I can currently reach as an NHS midwife. I hope more women will be able to trust themselves before they get to see me in hospital. Hopefully I can help to give you the tools to have the best birth day ever!

I hate talking about myself! I guess that’s why I enjoy working as a midwife – I’m not supposed to be the star of the show. I am a qualified midwife and hypnobirthing instructor and as of May, will be teaching pre and postnatal yoga too!

I’m an introvert, undercover as a chatterbox.

I am mother to one human toddler and one fur baby (she’s 7 but she’ll always be my baby).

I love all things midwifery and am a total work nerd! I hate not knowing the answers when asked a question so spend my work breaks reading research papers and asking the local Maternity Voices Partnership what women have been feeding back.

In my spare time (what spare time?) I tend to collect hobbies. I wait until I’m really excellent at one, then never look at it again! Some examples are women’s cricket, tae kwon do, woodwork and knitting. My two great loves are yoga and wine – these hobbies aren’t going anywhere.
