What are the benefits of KG Hypnobirthing?
You are likely to experience a more comfortable and sometimes pain free birth.
Your baby will arrive to a serene and relaxed environment, alert and ready to bond with you as nature intended.
Length of labour is often much shorter.
Less drugs and medical intervention are used in Hypnobirthing births allowing your baby to develop naturally and easily after they arrive.
Mums often bounce back quicker after birth as the physical impact of giving birth is reduced.
Your birth partner will learn how to support you and have a central and active role in the birth. A truly shared and loving experience.
What Does the Class Include?
We know how busy you are when you are pregnant, so the class is taught in one full weekend which you will find more convenient and easier to fit into your diary. You will have the opportunity of meeting other like-minded couples and build up a wonderful group rapport over the weekend.
There is so much in the course that it’s almost impossible to list it all, but here is a brief outline:
What are your concerns about birth? That’s the reason you’re coming to this course, isn’t it? So we need to know what they are so we can lay them to rest during the course of the weekend.
What do you want out of the course? It’s your course, and we need to be sure we cover everything you want and need.
How does your body work, the muscles of the uterus and the hormones. When you understand this you will understand why many women have such a painful and traumatic experience giving birth and why, with the right information and skills, it doesn’t have to be like that for you. KGH mums can have a positive and empowering experience. It is fascinating to understand why so many women have pain, what causes it, and why it may not be necessary.
How your mind, conscious and subconscious, affects your body. The body does nothing without your mind tell it to. With mind and body working together in the way nature intended, your birth can be efficient and so much more comfortable.
Why negative and thoughtless language can have a devastating effect on how you give birth. Your partner’s natural instinct to protect you helps to keep you safe.

The skills you would expect to get at a hypnobirthing course:
Breathing. You don’t need complicated things in labour. But you do need clear and simple skills. Many women have said this was one of the things they really valued at their birth.
Relaxations – 10 of them. For practice, to release fear when you are subjected to negative stories and fearmongering, and for use at birth.
Positive Statements. Simple but powerful. Often the simple things are the most effective.
An opportunity to practice all these things while we are together so you feel confident using them when you go home.
Everything to consider during your pregnancy as appropriate to you and the other people in your group: back-to-back babies, breech babies, c-section, gentle c-section, pelvic floor exercises, perineal massage, etc.
You might not expect the next section, but it arose because of all the questions that come pouring out at the course. There may not be time to cover all your questions with good information at your antenatal visit. It is important that everything you need or want to know is fully covered.
Many apparent reasons may be presented to you to persuade you to agree to the induction of labour you had previously decided you did not want. The fearmongering can be intense:
What is really involved in an induction of labour (including a membrane sweep). What are your choices, and what is the frequent outcome,
The ‘reasons’ that may be given include, increased stillbirth, placenta will fail, big baby, gestational diabetes, low amniotic fluid, older mother, IVF conception, etc. etc. The creativity can be remarkable.
You may have already chosen where to give birth. Was it truly an informed choice, or was it based on assumptions you had acquired from the movies or grown up with all your life? You need to know what support is available to you wherever you may choose to give birth. For example, if you had booked to give birth in a birth centre, did you know that you may not be accepted in the birth centre beyond 41.5 weeks? You probably weren’t told that.
Water birth and other forms of pain relief.
After all this information that you really need, you will learn how to navigate the maternity services to get the birth you want. You will have the skills to use at the birth of your baby.
Now your baby is born you might think that’s all, but ‘no’. This is another part you may not even have considered. In the hour after your baby is born, sometimes called the golden hour, there are massive changes taking place in that little person you are holding in your arms and important choices for you to make to ensure your baby has the best start in life: cord cutting, expelling the placenta, what is happening to your hormones, the injection offered to you after birth, the establishment of breast feeding, vitamin K for your baby.
The significant difference between a managed or a physiological third stage of labour.
Your partner will also learn how much you need their protection and what to do to support you.
The 10 minutes a day practice between when you do the course and when you give birth.
If you can think of anything you would like to have included, let us know. It’s probably there, but I haven’t mentioned it.
Learn about the five Cs of hypnobirthing:
Confidence | When you feel confident, you relax and work with your body in the way nature intended. |
Control | With the knowledge you have, you are enabled to take control of how you give birth. |
Choice | When you feel in control, the choices you make are the best choices for you and for your baby. |
Calm | When you feel calm throughout the birth you are relaxed and your mind and body work together in harmony. |
Comfort | The result is that your body works efficiently and comfortably. A KG Hypnobirthing birth can be the most wonderful and empowering experience of your life. |
The size of the groups classes vary, depending on a great many factors including the venue, the time of year, and imponderables that I shall never understand. It can be lovely to do hypnobirthing in a group because you can meet other like-minded expectant couples, exchange ideas, and learn from their questions. The groups are kept small enough to be personal, and large enough to be friendly.
If you prefer to set up a one-to-one course with Katharine, please email to discuss options.
There are many KGH teachers who work in this way. Just visit the KG Hypnobirthing teachers’ list to find someone near you with whom you feel rapport and who works in a way that suits your diary.
“You can find good information about babies and birth in many places, but hypnobirthing is the only thing I know that actually makes a difference to your experience of giving birth.
I cannot promise the perfect birth. Nothing can, and to do so would be ridiculous and not true. However my experience is that KG Hypnobirthing always makes a difference, and a very big difference too.
It is a privilege to be a teacher and to be invited into your life at such a special time in order to make it even better.”
