I wanted to get in touch and share my birth story.
We did the KG Hypnobirthing Online programme and made sure to get our practice in from about 30 weeks. We loved the course. My husband and I both felt more informed, prepared and calm for the journey ahead.
I believed in my body. In my ability to birth. But nothing could have prepared me for the way our boy entered the world.
On 4th May 2022 I woke up at around 3.30am with a niggling pain in my right hip. I didn’t think much of it, went to the loo and took some paracetamol. I tried to go back to sleep but by 4.20am realised I was having regular surges, around 6 minutes apart. I thought it best to wake my husband. We got dressed and gave the hospital a call…they advised that as it was my first baby I was unlikely to be quick and to ride it out at home a bit longer as I sounded like I was coping well.
Within 30 minutes, my surges got more and more intense. I just knew our boy was not going to wait. I trusted my instinct and we went straight to the hospital. The journey was…interesting. My surges were intense but I remembered my breathing. My husband kept me calm with affirmations and had on a tshirt of my ‘calm colour’.
We arrived at the hospital and walking from the car to the exam room I had 3 intense surges. They examined me and I was 10cm dilated. I felt the pressure and knew I needed to bare down.
The midwives were amazing. They went over my birthplan and provided me with a birthing stool to use whilst the pool was filled. I managed to get in and birth my boy in the pool within 10 minutes. He was born in his waters, which I’m told is very lucky, just 45 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. Labour was 3 hours 20 minutes from waking up to him being born.
We have an amazing son, 7lb 14oz. Our first baby. I just can’t believe how much I love him.
My husband and the midwives kept commenting on how calm I was, right until the end. I tore a tiny bit (skin, no muscle) and didn’t require any stitches.
Thank you for helping me to have the most empowering experience of my life. I felt like a goddess.
