Attending the recent Royal College of Midwives (RCM) conference was a good opportunity for us to highlight the KGH teacher training courses and raise the profile of KGHypnobirthing in hospitals. It is vital that midwives have up-to-date knowledge about all areas of their practice and the programme this year had an emphasis on challenges and how to overcome them – whether in leadership, quality assurance, addressing inequalities or supporting those most in need and the importance of multi-disciplinary teamwork in all aspects of maternal care.
I attended a very useful breakfast meeting with Sheena and Anna Byrom and David Bennett of ‘all 4 maternity’. This is a very interesting development designed to make sure that anyone involved in the birthing world has up-to-date accurate information on all aspects of birth and proposed interventions.
Given the current trends in natural birth, we enjoyed sharing stories from a whole range of KGHypnobirthing mums with the midwives, as well as listening to their front-line experience. It is heartening to hear that the popularity of hypnobirthing is increasing and that more midwives are seeing first-hand the power of a KGHypnobirthing birth. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm from midwives and student midwives. It reminded me that the number of mums we teach is just a drop in the ocean of the 750,000 women who give birth in this country every year. We need to reach the 700,000 women who do not yet benefit from KGHypnobirthing.
